Dream Home From Cardboard?
The Budget Decorator's Bible is here!
WEST RICHLAND, Wash.Kathleen Wilson knows the value of a dollar. She knows looking good isn't always cheap. But, more importantly, that cheap doesn't always mean bad. This mother of five children and three stepchildren has practically redefined the catch phrase 'tight budget.' And she's added a certain flair to being frugal. With Kathleen Wilson's decorating do's, looking like a million bucks doesn't have to mean spending it.
Now, she wants you to know her secret. Quick Decorating Ideas Under $20: The Budget Decorator's Bible (now available through 1stbooks Library) highlights Wilson's fantastic frugal fixes.
This book is filled with hundreds of low cost, and even free, ideas for those home decorators on the tightest of budgets, and for those who don't usually allot a budget for decorating at all. Wilson's book proves that good taste doesn't have to cost a fortune. You'll hardly be able to wait to decorate by the time you get through the book. Terry Rigg, author of Living Within Your Means The Easy Way, agrees. "Kathleen has a unique ability to spark your imagination and creativity. Anyone reading this book will find themselves looking for ways to put these ideas to work in their homes."
Considering today's economy, and the mood of many buyers in light of domestic insecurity, her 'Budget Bible' is an extremely timely publication. Consumers might be cutting back on larger expenditures, but smaller items that instill sentiment, especially those necessary creature comforts, are selling better and better. People want a home that is not only nice to come home to, but also an enjoyable calling card for company.
Thankfully, Kathleen Wilson has compiled her great ideas into a handy resource book for the crafty and creative. She's carved a guide for all those who are ready to let go of their imaginations instead of their wallets. With that in mind, Quick Decorating Ideas Under $20: The Budget Decorator's Bible is definitely a must have and a must read.
Kathleen Wilson has worked in home and garden design since 1988. She shares her expert advice through her popular website and newsletter The Budget Decorator, both of which are available at www.TheBudgetDecorator.com.

Five Ways to Do Your House Up in a Down Economy
Rewarding cost-saving tips for home decorating a little money can go a long way
West Richland, Wa. In today's economy with a world crisis brewing, people are focusing on spending less and insisting on getting better value on what they invest in.
Kathleen Wilson is an penny-pinching genius and a fountain of knowledge when it comes to how to use a little imagination and come up with ideas that are quick, easy, and inexpensive, and can be used throughout your home.
Her book, Quick Decorating Ideas Under $20: The Budget Decorator's Bible, is packed with room design and remodeling ideas and tips that can come in at costs about 10 percent of what you see on those TV room and home re-model shows. Get to work soldier! Here is a sample of the many spring-cleaning and re-decorating tips and ideas she offers in her amazing resource guide:
1. File, hide, and toss! Attack one area at a time, and try to fit in 15 minutes of reorganizing each day, it costs nothing! Don't come back till there are no survivors. Take no hostages!
2. Never buy new! Recycle, reuse, renovate and innovate! Creative sources for low cost decorating materials include garage sales or thrift stores. Clothing and linen can be made into pillow covers, picture matting, or curtains and other decorations. Challenge yourself! You can save hundreds of dollars in your redecorating budget!
3. Create a Brave New Vision. Choose a favorite imaginative theme for every room. Don't be afraid, think wild, be unusual, be different. Challenge yourself to find inspiration in magazine or in nature. Use your child's favorite hobby as a backdrop for a wall-to-wall painting, or your husband's favorite hobby (fishing!) as a theme for the family room. Get out of your comfort zone!
4. Use Familiar Objects in New and Different Ways. Use garage finds for desktop materials. Use kitchen devices for artwork, garden ornaments as wall decorations. Move unused items from other rooms, and rearrange your furniture for a fresh look. Get a few candles and double the light by placing an old mirror behind them.
5. Move in with nature! Start growing indoor plants. Take clippings from outdoor ivy, and root in water for FREE houseplants. Get some seeds at the local grocery store start the inexpensive shade annuals now. Pot them up for indoors- fuchsias, impatiens, begonias, and primroses are wonderful for bringing in color, and deal well with the lower light indoors. If you want, you can move them outdoors later! And when no one's home you can talk to them!
