By Kathy Wilson
Want to decorate your walls, but your budget is tight? Here are some terrific low cost wall decor ideas that can be used for any room.
*Baskets
*Straw hats or fedoras
*Empty frames from yard sales
*Blocks of wood as candle wall sconces
*Pretty quilts
*Print family snapshots in black and white, and hang in black dollar shop frames
*Garden catalog pages, in frames
*Antique silverware hung as a collection
*Seed packets
*Frame graphic food labels for a kitchen
*Old tools or sports equipment
*Use paint to stencil or freehand inspirational words
*Paint your last name or monogram on an old piece of wood
*Plates
*Frame colorful fabric from your scrap bag
Remember to use low cost sources for your wall decor. Thrift shops, dollar stores and yard sales can offer great treasures at a pauper’s price!
Wall decor looks best if hung in groupings, rather than scattered around the room. Try to have a few contrasting elements in each group for interest. For instance, if I hang a grouping of rectangular frames, I will try to add a round piece such as a clock to break up the look.
Finally, keep in mind that not every wall in your home needs to have something hanging on it. The eye needs a place to rest from time to time, so make sure your groupings are broken up by expanses of space as well. If in doubt, less is more!
